Was photographing her and suddenly she jumped on the cage at me....about a second after this photo.
We are saddened to announce the passing of one of Heritage Park Zoo’s beloved residents, ‘Cassie’ the Tiger. She was under veterinary treatment for recent medical complications and passed away on Sunday, February 3, 2019.
Cassie was rescued from a zoo in Nebraska that was forced to close in January 2009. She has been a member of HPZS animal family for over 10 years. She has warmed the hearts of all who knew her and delighted the guests with her amazing personality. It is an understandably sad time for all of us at HPZS and so many in the community who have come to know her over the years.
We want to thank Dr. Ken Skinner and the veterinary staff at Prescott Animal Hospital as well as the HPZS keeper staff for their dedication and care for her welfare.
A memorial will be set up soon in front of her enclosure for those
wishing to visit the Sanctuary in her memory.

Location
This was taken at the local sanctuary zoo...I love working with animals and especially big cats and horses (of which I have 5).Time
This was shot in the early morning on a trip with one of our grandchildren, I was playing with the settings to be able to shoot through the chain link fence. I would have liked it to be a little clearer at the time, but when I reviewed it when I got home I found I really liked the effect I got.Lighting
I had been talking to the tiger for a time to get her over in the corner where the light was very mystical, think I nailed it.Equipment
No Tripod, and I use an older Canon.Inspiration
BIG cats are a draw for me, perhaps because I am a Leo? I am also a fine artist and love to get artsy shots, whether it is to do with the weather, lighting, or the drama of the subject matter.Editing
I did some minor editing in Photoshop but next to nothing on this one.In my camera bag
I keep a tripod, extra lens (wide angle, micro and zoom), filters, lens wipes, extra batteries and memory cards and a charger for my battery and portable unit to charge from since I will not usually be near a power outlet. Because I can get carried away and shoot hundreds of photos....Feedback
Watch your lighting - stay around until the animal wants to come to you, talk to them get them curious....take lots of shots - sure most will be lost to the trash bin but all you need is that ONE!
