Location
This photo was taken along the shoreline in the Honey Island Swamp in Louisiana.Time
I took this photo sometime in the afternoon, around 3:00-4:00pm. This is usually the prime time for swamp boats to do their touring in the swamp so this little guy was out waiting for them to toss some treats his way.Lighting
The lighting is all natural but it was during the afternoon which is a great time to shoot so I didn't have to deal with any harsh highlights or shadows.Equipment
I shot this with a Nikon D3000, I have since upgraded to a D610, but D3000 was still great at helping me capture the perfect shot!Inspiration
Well my dad inspired me to become a photographer. I grew up going out on the boat with him and seeing the beautiful swamp landscape and wildlife. This made me want to capture and preserve all my memories and sights I saw on the boat with him.Editing
Yes, I use lightroom to fix my color balance and the basics. I then take it over to photoshop for a little more detailed editing in the highlights, shadows, etc.In my camera bag
Of course I have my camera which is now a Nikon D610. I also carry a 18mm-55mm lens, 70mm-300mm lens, 35mm with f1.4, a manfrotto tripod, my Nikon FM10, film, and my polaroid camera.Feedback
Afternoons are the best time for wildlife in the Honey Island Swamp, it's also great for lighting! You could also take a ride around in the Honey Island Swamp tour boats, since they are usually the ones that can get the raccoons and alligators to come out with treats and snacks they give them. And just be patient, wildlife is unpredictable so you might not get the shot you want but that doesn't mean you should give up. Keep going out and exploring!
