Believe or not this was taken in my backyard! We have some big trees right a the edge of the block and one is a huge gum tree. Gum leaves are the favourite food for Koala Bears and this fellow decided to "hang out" for a while. It was mid-summer on an extremely hot day ( over 40 degrees Celsius). This bear was on the move to try and escape the heat. You can tell by the way he has his paw open he is trying to cool down.Time
This was taken late afternoon after I returned home from work. The Koala had been spotted by the dog who was yapping at the base of the tree. Koalas mostly move around in the evening and he was fairly set for the day. We left some water for him at the base of the tree as they often search for a drink.Lighting
As it was late afternoon the light was fading so it was a good time for a shotEquipment
I used an Olympic OMD-10 with an Olympus 75-300 mm lens. No tripod, just hand held.Inspiration
I love taking photos of animals I am fairly new to photography and one of my first experiences was to take my new camera to the zoo. After that I was hooked. When a lovely Koala climbed into my backyard I had my own zoo to play in- how lucky was I ?Editing
I used Lightroom to play around with shadows and few settings until the picture was sharp and clear. In my camera bag
My equipment has grown slowly. My basic purchase was an Olympus OMD -10 with two kit lenses. I then added a 75-300 mm lens and my latest purchase was a 17mm prime lens. I now own a great Manfrotto tripod. Every birthday means more stuff!Feedback
Sometimes its all about opportunity. I was lucky this bear decided to walk into my yard. I am on the lookout for birds and other creatures now and I've taken a few good shots as a result. I like landscapes and will always take the camera if I'm on the road.
