Behind The Lens

Location

The photo was taken at the Indiana State Fairgrounds in Indianapolis, Indiana during the Mecum Spring Classic Automobile Auction. 1966 Honda CB160 Van Tech heading to the auction block and it sold for $6250

Time

This was an afternoon photo.

Lighting

The photo was taken indoors inside of the cattle barn at the state fairgrounds. The cattle barn has a lot of glass window panes in the upper walls and roof which makes for some very nice natural lighting.

Equipment

This one was a hand held photo shot with a Canon EOS 60D using an 18-135 lens.

Inspiration

This particular day I was just experimenting with different camera settings under the lighting of the cattle barn.

Editing

No post processing with this photo.

In my camera bag

I generally travel light with one camera and lens even though I own many different cameras and lens both digital and film. I usually have an idea of what I want to do and just gear up for that photo.

Feedback

It takes a little bit of experimenting to get it the way you want the shot, but generally it's the smallest aperture and the slowest f-stop for the available lighting combined with the speed of the subject being panned. It's a bit different panning a subject walking verses an Indy car racing down the track. Also, the faster the subject the more it helps to be farther away from the subject.
