a lot of trial and error kathyk_abq. as anthony says a high shutter speed and the dripping is normally at different speeds for different effects.

I am generally not a fan of macro-photography, but I like your take on the genre as you seem to push your viewpoint in creating some captivating photographs. With that said, I would push even more the preciseness of your compositions. For example, my observation of this beautiful shot is that the amount of background and surrounding bokeh is important for framing the exquisiteness of the water drops. The focal point needs space to breath a bit. The frame is just too tight. Nonetheless, I love the photography, especially the magenta-violet color gradation with the blue-green highlights. You were smart to push the saturation and vibrance, as well. I wonder what other parts of the color wheel can be explored with other takes? Bravo.

To answer your question kathyk_abq, you need a fast shutter, fast continuous shooting mode on the camera, manual focus and a whole lot of patience. You may get this shot in one go but it took me a 100.
