Location
This photo was taken for an assignment on using studio flash lighting to stop action for my Professional Photography class at Butte College.Time
This was taken at about 2 in the afternoon in a dark studio.Lighting
For lighting, two Einstein flash units synced to a wireless release trigger was used.Equipment
We used two Einstein flash units with softboxes attached, my Nikon D5100 on a tripod fitted with my kit 18-55mm lens, a kid pool that the model sat inside of on a stool, several pitchers filled with warm water, plastic sheets to protect equipment from the water, a patient model, and about 6 assistants.Inspiration
We were trying to create interesting photos using flash lighting that stopped the water in action.Editing
In Photoshop, I removed a light fire from one of the lights, removed and also cloned in some of the water spots, and tinted her lips slightly so theyou would "pop" from behind her hair.In my camera bag
I always have my Nikon, a 18-55 and 55-200 lens, lens cleaning cloth, business cards, a couple of small clamps, tape, a folding reflector, baby wipes, several filters, extra batteries and charger, lens hood, and a loop.Feedback
Know the effect you are going for and keep shooting and trying different techniques until you get it right. You could click 100 times and not get the shot you want, but then on 101, there it is! This is a difficult shot to get, the timing with the flash, water, and movement has to be perfect...plus with water, you have to clean up and wipe down after each shot and try to keep your model warm. It can be a long process trying to get a shot like this, but when you do its so satisfying!
