Behind The Lens

Location

This is a photo of Camp Four Lake on the Great Divide District of the Chequamegon National Forest in Northern Wisconsin. Located in the Rock Lake non-motorized area.

Time

The photo was made in the late afternoon in early October, around one hour before sunset.

Lighting

The soft golden hour lighting and the absence of wind help saturate the colors and allowed for good reflection in the water.

Equipment

It has been a while since I made this photo; I used a Nikon 7100 with a Nikon 18-70mm. Bogen tripod with ball head.

Inspiration

I am very familiar with the area and was driving around looking for fall colors. I had just left another close by area satisfied that I had a series of good photos then made one last stop by this location.

Editing

Not very much. A little boost for saturation and sharpening was about all I had to do. Most of the time I do a lot more post but this image did not need much.

In my camera bag

Now I shoot full frame with Nikon 750, hope to add an 850 soon. My lens choice depends on what I am after, landscape, wildlife, night skies. I have two bags, one has filters and a range of lens from 14mm to 200mm. The second bag is there to load a limited amount of gear if I am shooting sports. In my vehicle, I have cases with other lense such as Sigma 150-600mm, pan heads, Astro tracker, lightning trigger and a lot of tools.

Feedback

I almost always have my gear with me and the camera is set ready to go with settings correct for that time of day. With Fall photographs, don't put it off since the peak colors don't last long. Keep a journal and listen to others for possible locations.
