Sydney's Harbour is truly amazing at any time of day or night. But don't spend all your time staring at the bridge... You've also got to check out the national park, abandoned WWII fortifications, the secret beaches, lighthouses, wharves, theme parks and shipwrecks.

There's a hundred great vantage points of Sydney's famous Harbour Bridge. This photo was taken from a fairly well known spot called Blues Point.Time
There is no better time to photograph the Harbour Bridge than the Golden Hour leading up to sunrise.Lighting
A pre-dawn photo of the Harbour Bridge is going to be spectacular all year round, but it's all the more magical during the summer months when the sun rises directly behind the bridge from this particular vantage point.Equipment
This was a few months ago when I was just starting out and learning about photography. I was working with limited funds and couldn't afford a full frame camera. So while I now shoot with a Canon 80D and 5D, this particular photo was taken with a Canon 70D. The lens remains one of my favourites, a Tamron 10-24mm f/3.5-4.5. It's a brilliant wide angle lens for use on a crop-sensor DSLR.Inspiration
When I first started out, my instinct was to stay away from the 'icons'. You can see a hundred photos a day of the Eiffel Tower or the Sydney Harbour Bridge. But like so many others, looking through a lens changed the way I see the world and a part of that is being drawn to the modern wonders around us.Editing
I've only just taught myself how to use Lightroom, and having just started out I was still fascinated by the plethora of mobile apps and filters available. This photo was simply saturated using PIXLR on my iPhone, but the colors are absolutely the real thing. In my camera bag
I like to tell people that having found a passion for photography, I don't leave the house for hours, I'm gone for days. And I pack accordingly. So I have at least my Canon 80D or 5D. I always carry my trusty 3 lenses, a Canon L-Series 70-200mm, my new wide-angle Sigma 10-20mm and my go-to Sigma 18-35mm F1.8.Feedback
It's hard to take a bad photo of the Sydney Harbour Bridge, but if you're in the area and have the chance, get yourself to either Blues Point or Milsons Point just before sunrise in the summer months, or to Kirribilli at night time all year round for the best views of the bridge. And don't forget a decent wide-angle lens and of course, a good tripod!!
