Location
I photographed this landscape on Gibralter Island, which is in a world renowned sea kayaking area, the broken group islands on Vancouver Island. My friend and I paddled here to meet up with an old friend that I had not seen in 20 years. We enjoyed 3 days of paddling, camping, exploring the area, playing in the phosphorescence, and many laughs around the campfire. Amazing memories.Time
Early morning, while enjoying my first coffee and writing in my travel journal.Lighting
The warm early morning light was certainly welcome, after a few previous days of camping in the damp rain forest.Equipment
This was shot handheld on my Fuji X2 with no other equipment.Inspiration
Our trip featured a fair amount of fog and it had been drizzling off and on, so when the warm glow of the morning sun arrived, I felt compelled to capture it.Editing
Not much needed to be done with this image, most adjustments were done in-camera. If I recall correctly, perhaps a minimal boost to colour saturation and contrast was done.In my camera bag
I normally carry 2 cameras: a Canon 7D with a 100-400mm lens to capture wildlife, and a Fuji X2 for landscapes. Also of course is a tripod, and a polarizing filter.Feedback
Get up early! The morning sun is worth it. Test different white balance settings to get the vibe you are looking for. Maybe use a tripod and test slower shutter speeds to capture soft cloud movements. Experiment!
