Location

Time

A perfect sunrise!

Lighting

The angle in which the sun was rising helped make the lighting richer. Honestly, the sun did most of the work on this shot. I had it programmed on a 800 ISO.

Equipment

For this photo, I used a Canon Rebel 5ti. The lens was a 35mm-85mm, no flash.

Inspiration

A sunrise or sunset photo is always a good idea. They are my inspiration in life, and when I see the the coloring in the sky is reflecting off the sun in a beautiful opportunity, I just can't help myself to capture it. There were a group of birds that were also angled towards the sun and watching it rise. I asked my friend to run through the birds to get them to fly around the sun glow. I was on my stomach for the angle of the picture. It worked perfect, and I was more then thrilled how the shots turned out!

Editing

Depending on the coloring landscape photos can take time to edit, however for this photo, the coloring was already popping with the lighting. I specifically did a contrast so that it would increase the sun flare, and then also silhouette the birds around it for a more significant contrast. But not much else to change here.

In my camera bag

I always carry my Canon 5ti pretty much everywhere I go. I keep a 35mm-85mm, 50mm, and a 70mm-300mm for close up shots. I think my favorite lens is the 70mm-300mm. You can capture a something so detailed or intimate and then blur the rest out of the picture. That is beginning to become my favorite photos that I have been working to improve.

Feedback

If you are wanting to capture a beach sunrise or sunset photo, my best advice would be that the coloring changes and becomes more intense as the sun changes. I like to watch the sun colors unfold so I take the photos starting from the beginning to the end to see how the story unfolds. The angles to capture the sun vary. Sometimes making the water the focal point as the reflection is great. Sometimes the clouds or the sun is the focal point. I would encourage you to try everything in regards to every angle whether you are on your stomach, in the water, or standing up. The 35mm-85mm has been one of my best lens's to use for beach photos. I would encourage you to find artistic ways to tell the story of the ocean. :)
