Richmond Park - London, England.Time
Very early morning... the park had just opened.Lighting
Early morning sunrise, through the mist... so atmospheric. Exactly what I was hoping for, and it fell into place on the day!Equipment
Canon 7D mk1, Canon 15-85 f/3.5-5.6 IS USM lens. Handheld, no flash.Inspiration
I was looking for an atmospheric shot of a lone Red Deer stag, and was really lucky to get a misty sunrise thrown in.Editing
PP in Adobe Lightroom, for crop, levels and a tweak to colour and to bring out a bit more detail in the darker areas. Slight noise reduction. Nothing much else, as I try and get it 'almost right' in camera. In my camera bag
I normally carry 2 Canon 7D's (a mk1 and a mk2). The mk2 has a Canon 100-400 L II IS USM on, and the mk1 has the Canon 15-85 - which I rate quite highly. I may have the Canon 10-22 in the bag too, or maybe the Canon 100 L macro - depending what I'm shooting. I carry polarising filters, but usually only have protector filters on the lens to weatherproof them. I use a Black Rapid double strap (splits down to a single when required), and I usually have a photo/fisherman's vest on (£20 from Amazon!) to carry spare cards/batteries/cleaning cloth and brush. I always have Storm Jackets for my cameras as if it rains, I want to keep the kit dry. I always have my iPhone6 too, and have used shots from it in competitions!Feedback
Have an idea what you want from the trip, and commit to it. If it doesn't happen, so be it, shoot something else, but when it comes together you'll be ready, and you'll get the shot you wanted. Always buy the best you can afford - I go by the maxim 'buy cheap, buy twice'. Sometimes it's not the camera equipment that lets you down, it's the fact your wet or cold. Invest in good thermals and waterproof gear, and good head gear.
