The distinctive Dome Cinema is just set back from the seafront in the seaside town of Worthing, West Sussex, England. The Dome is an Edwardian building that was opened in 1911 and was originally named The Kursaal (German for "cure hall"). Used for roller skating, exhibitions, concerts and other events, it is a Grade II listed building and is one of the oldest working cinemas in England. During World War I it was re-named as the town objected to its German name so residents were canvassed by way of a competition to suggest a new name and the winner was "The Dome". Having gone through various stages of redevelopment and abandonment, it was extensively re-furbished during 2005 and re-opened in 2007. Famously it was the first West Sussex cinema to be available for paying audiences.
