Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken at the always beautiful Tuross Head NSW Aus. This particular shot was taken overlooking Coila Lake, with the pacific ocean directly behind me.

Time

This was around 5:30 pm as the sun was setting behind the magnificent Great Dividing Range

Lighting

There was an incredible glow in the sky this evening, so i had my camera virtually in the water to block the direct sunlight glare and get the shadow I was after.

Equipment

This was shot on a Samsung Nx500 with 16-50mm lens.

Inspiration

Walking along the bank with my little girl and she says "look at that log it looks like a swamp monster coming out of the lake" and a couple of minutes later i had this shot!

Editing

I have to admit I am very new to post processing- so a slight boost to the colour to add a bit of intensity and i was done!

In my camera bag

Usually I just have my Samsung Nx500 around my neck and my mobile in my hand for checking composition on a larger screen Rarely use a tripod because I like to get the camera into different angles than most other people!!

Feedback

Being patient with the sun is the biggest tip I have. I regularly take over 100 sunset or sunrise photos in a session and when you bring them up on the laptop as thumbnails you realise there is a small window (a couple of minutes) where the light is far more intense and it in these moments you need to be ready to get the shot you are after or it will be gone for another day!
