Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken at my in-home studio located in Upstate New York.

Time

This image was taken mid-afternoon around 4pm.

Lighting

Natural light was pouring through the windows. This gave me the perfect opportunity to create a soft, natural glow on this precious baby girl.

Equipment

This was shot on my Canon 5D Mark iii with a Canon 85mm 1.8.

Inspiration

The bunny reminded me of a stuffed animal that I had when I was young. "Best friends cuddling" popped in my mind. I wanted simplicity for this image. I thought having her cuddle the bunny added a little bit of sweetness while still allowing me to keep the main focus on her.

Editing

I kept the post-processing very simple for this image. I uploaded to Lightroom, slightly adjusted exposure and contract. Then finished by lightly smoothing her skin in Photoshop.

In my camera bag

Inside my awesome (The House of Flynn) bag I always have my Canon 5D Mark iii along with my Canon 50mm 1.2 prime (personal fave), Canon 85mm 1.8 prime and Sigma 35mm 1.4 prime (fave for weddings). I almost always carry my Canon 70-200mm 2.8 but my bag gets pretty heavy so once in a while I leave it home! I also carry a lenspen, business cards, chap stick and a medium size crystal to shoot through for fun!

Feedback

Shooting with natural light in-studio can be so amazing! If you want a soft look but you have direct sunlight shining on your subject, add a sheer curtain to your window so that it helps create a softer feel for your image. To me it's all about the time of day and the way the light hits inside my studio. I prefer a soft look to most of my images so creating even light naturally works great for me!
