I was walking along a nature trail during my lunch break from work. I frequented this particular area as it was fairly close to work and provided a good variety of birds. I heard a Steller's Jay making a lot of racket in a nearby spruce tree. I decided to investigate and see if I could get a good photo of the Steller's Jay. I made my way off the trail and into the snow, getting closer and closer to the largest spruce tree the Jay was located in. As I neared the tree, I noticed a small lump on a branch just above my head. I thought to myself "could that be an owl?" and that thought compelled me closer until I had a clear view. Sure enough, this little owl was sitting on this branch with a freshly caught rodent under it's feet. I had never seen an owl this small before and quickly discovered it was a Boreal Owl through my bird ID app. It was a special treat to find this little owl that day.Equipment

I love birds and I love bird photography, this was taken as I was just beginning my my journey into bird photography.Editing

Nowdays I shoot with a Nikon D500 with the 200-500mm f5.6 lens. I also have a 24-70 f2.8 and a 70-200 f2.8 which I use occasionally as well.Feedback
Look and listen. Other birds will often give away the presence of an owl or other raptor. Paying attention to what's going on around you can yield interesting results!
