Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken on the river in Norfolk, VA at the campus of Old Dominion University.

Time

I took this photo in January of 2016 at sunset. This was one of the coldest days of the year. Those are the days I like to explore, when most people dont want to leave the house :)

Lighting

I loved the sun lighting up the icicles frozen on the rope. We also get really pretty sunsets during the winter months here in SE Virginia, so the colors in the background were extra stunning.

Equipment

I used a Canon 70D camera with 18-135 f3.5-5.6 lens (ISO200 f11 18mm 1/160sec)

Inspiration

I like to look for and photograph outliers in my area. It very rarely snows and freezes in SE Virginia so whenever it snows I'm out there exploring. This scenario was really cool because as the waves washed the water up on the shore, it sprayed high onto the rope hence freezing in the process. It was a really pretty sight to see.

Editing

I used Lightroom to process the photo, but very little was done to it. I lightened the shadows a bit and increased clarity.

In my camera bag

I bring my camera everywhere, normally just the body and lens. My favorite lens is the Canon 16-35mm f/2.8 which lets me capture wide landscape and city shots. Its with me all the time.

Feedback

Wear warm clothing and dont be afraid of the cold. Its worth it when you're the only person brave enough to be out there capturing the natures beauty.
