Location
This photo was taken along the south shore on the Caribbean island of Aruba at a point that allows an unobstructed view to the west into the sea.Time
I captured this image a little after 6pm. Sunset on Aruba occurs every day shortly after 6pm. Due to the islands proximity to the equator, the sun rises and sets at just about the same times every day of the year.Lighting
Sunsets are almost always dominated by the yellows and oranges seen in this photo. Aruba is famous for their sunsets. In this image, the catamaran just happened to be in the right spot at the right moment to allow a wonderful shot of the silhouette against the setting sun.Equipment
For this image, I used a Fuji FinePix XP series waterproof point and shoot camera. Having been in or on the water most of the day, it was the camera I had with me at the time.Inspiration
I absolutely love sunsets and being near the water. This photo was taken primarily as a reminder of the wonderful time spent on the island, and to allow me to return to my 'happy place' if only in memory during the long, cold winters.Editing
There is no post process in this photo, it is completely 'natural' as shot.In my camera bag
My kit usually carries my main camera equipment including a Canon T3i, 18-55mm lens, 70-300 telephoto, Tamron 8mm aspherical fisheye for wide range of view photos, various ND, UV and CPL filters, Manfrotto tripod as well as remote shutter release and hot shoe flash. I also carry the Fuji Finepix waterproof camera for situations that involve being in or very near water.Feedback
I captured this photo while on holiday. Great sunsets can occur anywhere in the world. If traveling is not in your budget, don't worry because great sunsets can be captured where ever you may be. The best sunsets require clouds to help disperse the colors. and the sun to be lower in the sky. Find an area you like, photograph what looks good to you, what catches your eye. Most of all, Have fun and never miss a chance for a great photo.
