This photo of the Rheinstein Castle was taken from the deck of the Viking Rivership "Kavasir" while on the Rhine river. It has be partially restored and I believe it is now owned by a famous opera singer.Time
The photo was taken using my Samsung Note 4 phone at 4:00 pm local time as we traversed a section of river which has castles and castle ruins scattered along the bank.Lighting
The boat was moving and I took shots from several angles in order to catch details which appeared differently as the sun angle changedEquipment
This was shot using my Samsung Note 4 phone in daylight and edited in Lightroom 5.5. My Canon 5D2 with a Sigma 25-105 F4 lens was in my room and I didn't get it until after this section had passed as I didn't want to miss this castle. Lesson: Carry your good camera but use what you have at hand if you want the shot.Inspiration
This was a very interesting section of the Rhine with many ruins to see and lots of history around every bend.Editing
White balance and slight color adjustments and small cropping was all that was needed.I used Lightroom and Photoshop 5.5 for editing. In my camera bag
There was a great deal of walking so I decided to just take the 5D2, one 24-105 Sigma zoom,a Manfrotto monopod/walking stick, two polarizers,a handfull of 16 and 32 GBite cards, 5 batteries for camera,an international charger, and a very light weight tripod (ZOMEI). Of course I was carrying my phone out of habit and used the Pre downloaded maps on it that I got while still in the USA.Feedback
This was the first river cruise I had taken and I would recommend it to anyone who wants to see exiotic places in relatively good comfort. I could get off at any location (Normal port) but was responsible for getting myself to the next stop. The guides were very good and each stop was a history lesson with plenty to see and photograph.
