Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken at my neighbour's house in Melbourne, Australia. This is her new kitten, Eliot and I couldn't resist taking some cute photos of him.

Time

This photo was taken at 3:30pm on a school day. My kids came with me to my neighbour's house to meet their new kitten who is cute as a button.

Lighting

I wanted to show off the colours in Eliot's coat so I modified the photo slightly using the colour saturation filter.

Equipment

This was simply taken on an iPhone 6. I have an SLR however, I find that the images come out sharper with my iPhone.

Inspiration

It is pretty easy to see that this kitten is pretty cute. I wanted to take a photo of his whole body in a sitting position rather than just his face so I asked my neighbor to hold him up with the plain coloured wall in the background to fully capture his whole form. He just happened to tilt his head to the side which makes him look even cuter.

Editing

Yes, I just modified the colour saturation and cast as well as the brightness to make the colours in his coat stand out a bit more.

In my camera bag

All I have is my iPhone. I don't use any other special devices. It's amazing how well this simple camera can take a photo.

Feedback

I would suggest choosing your background wisely. If there is anything too busy happening in the background it will disturb the focal point of the photo. Using a plain wall or door as a backdrop makes for a nice, crisp portrait.
