This photo was taken at the Etna Vulcano in Sicily when I went there visit with my dad. The view was simply amazing.Time
This image was taken at 14:45 on the 1st of March 2012. Because of the heavy snow that occurred earlier that day the cable car was closed and only going until a certain stop. Me and my father managed to sneak out and go around the mountain giving me the chance to take this shot.Lighting
Shooting in a snowy landscape is quite amazing, the way the sunlight gets refracted in the ice crystals of the snow gives a very bright and clean light. The Sunlight hitting the almighty clouds also creates a beautiful aura with the light reflecting and the contrast of the darker parts of the clouds. The enable a nice balance between the brighter and darker zones of the image.Equipment
This image was shot using a Canon 350D and an 18-55mm f/3.5 lens. The only digital camera I ever owned since currently I shoot with the film.Inspiration
It was the first time being in such a snowy landscape since I was 6 years old. I just couldn't believe how beautiful was the image right before my eyes. Also the fact that we were above the clouds was just very dreamy for me.Editing
I don't really like to post-process my images a lot. In this particular image I increased a little bit the contrast and gave it a warmer tone.In my camera bag
This image was taken with a digital camera that I no longer use. For many years now I've been doing film photography so my gear is a point&shoot Olympus XA2 which is a very small and practical camera with such good lens. Also own a Canon EOS 300 with an 28-90mm Zoom f/4-5.6lens. For last but my absolute favourite a Bronica Etrsi with a 75mm lens which gives me such nice cinematographic detailed images.Feedback
Unfortunately when I visit the Etna I didn't plan ahead and it was possible to reach the top of the Vulcano. But if you choose the right time of the year you will be able to walk around more freely around the mountains. Dress accordingly as it is usually freezing during the time of the year I went and don't take too much weight with you as it will make it harder to walk around on the soft snow. Also, if you are into winter sports (either practicing or photographing) is a really great place for it.
