This photo was taken at a Park very close to my home. There's so many other Japanese Magnolia trees over here, bigger, even more loaded with flowers. But this one is special because it was the first Magnolia tree I saw in my life...it was love at first sight. Deep inside I see it as my tree.Time
It became a Spring tradition to photograph the Magnolias. It delights me. Every year I go at the same tree and capture its beauty. This image was taken April 04 2015 at 7:06pm. To make sure I wont miss Its pick of beauty I go to check it out day after day. Sometimes I get on the right timing, sometimes I don't. I'm enchanted by It regardless.Lighting
I prefer to go close to the end of the day. The softness of the light makes it even prettier and allows to enhance that dreamy atmosphere.Equipment
I used a Canon EOS Rebel T2i with a 28-70mm lens. It was the only camera I had back there. I'm a natural light lover so no flash ever. No tripod...I enjoy to explore angles and perspectives freely. Tripods make me feel stuck in occasions like that.Inspiration
The desire of creating something dreamy. The pink Magnolias are pure dream. It's perfect to transport you to another universe. The depth of field with all the flowers out of focus fills up the background like a pink bokeh curtain. It makes me want to see what there's behind/beyond that curtain.Editing
I shoot in RAW always. I use Lightroom for editing and how I edit depends of my mood, of how I feel about the image and what I want to express. In this case I didn't have much to do...I increased a bit of the Exposure and decreased the Blacks to achieve that heavenly atmosphere. The pinks and blues made the dream come to life.In my camera bag
My husband is also photographer so each one of us have a Canon 6D. We have Canon 50mm, 100mm, 28-70mm, Fisheye and an old Sigma 100-300mm. We also have an old film Pentax k1000 that I graciously named Martha and a Canon Elan 7ne named Frank. I wont pretend I'm an expert because I'm not. So please forgive me if I don't go in specifics on technical details of each lens. Actually I really don't care much for it. I do what I can with what I have on my hands. The best equipment I still believe is the eye.Feedback
If I could give any advice is to look at your subject with infinite desire. Your subject is your muse. Use your camera as a dance partner, let your eye guide you, explore all directions, don't be afraid. But don't let the subject blind you...Pay attention in what you want to create beyond that and sometimes magic happens.
