Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken on italian Alps, near Passo Gavia. The lake is called 'Lago Bianco' the altitude is about 2550 meters and it is frozen for 6 months a year.

Time

The better time to take photo in this place is on the evening, when the the lake is on shadow and the mountains are well-lighted from the sun. Generally on the evening there is no wind so the water is like a mirror and you can enjoy the reflexion of the mountains.

Lighting

It was a very sunny day. A better light can be when there are few clouds on the sky.

Equipment

I used a Canon 450D, Canon 18-55 lens and Manfrotto 190 XPRO tripod. I chose manual focus and i focused using the magnification x 10 on live view.

Inspiration

I know the location very well. I remember i wait a very clean sky in order to shot startrail and milky way during night. But when i was there in the late afternoon i see the lake very calm so i shot also a daylight photo.

Editing

I always shot raw. This photo requires very simple post-processing: just a shadow highlight adjustment specially on the grass.

In my camera bag

Actually i like thake photos of mountain landscapes. Recently i bought a Canon 6D. My favorite lens are Canon 24-105mm F4, Samyang 14 mm, Canon 70-200 mm F4. I always bring with me the tripod because i like to shot at sunrise / sunset or during night.

Feedback

First the location, then the right time, and obviously the weather. I suggest to explore the location few hours before the 'right time' for shot, so you can chose the better place for the right composition.
