My "Mommy & Me" photo was taken one sunny afternoon from the edge of my garage in Leesburg, VA, a residential community in Northern Virginia. I glanced across the street and there was a family of deer roaming. I quickly ran into my house to get my camera to take photos of the deer. My camera had been on the sports setting due to taking many athletic photos of my sons baseball games. When the camera was focused, I just kept taking photos.Time
"Mommy & Me' was taken on July 12, 2013. It was a sunny afternoon and quiet in the neighborhood.Lighting
I used the natural lighting of the sun and sports setting on the camera. I am an amateur photographer and 100% self taught.Equipment
"Mommy & Me" was taken with a Canon Rebel DLSR Camera, sports setting, no tripod, hand held, no flash.Inspiration
I was inspired by the peacefulness of the family of deer. The baby deer were playing and the mother was trying to keep them close to her. When I saw a moment when the baby deer slowed down playing and got closer to mom that is when I started shooting pictures.Editing
The "Mommy & Me" photo was only cropped to cut out tree and grass foliage from the photo so the concentration is more of the deer.In my camera bag
I now have a Nikon 5300 camera. I usually carry a tripod and a 300m zoom lens.Feedback
My advice is to allows have your camera with you if possible. The best shots are the ones that are unexpected. Sports setting works well when animals are in motion. Zoom works well with capturing animals in distances.
