Location
The photo was taken at Butterfly wonderland, scottsdale, Arizona, USA.Time
The image was taken at later part of the morning as the facility opens at 9 a.m.Lighting
The place is a closed one with controlled light. Photographer does not have flexibility to change light, position or internal environment. Also inside is extremely humid and time to time foggy making it very challenging to get a good composition.Equipment
This image was taken with Canon 6D, Canon 100 mm macro lens. This is a hand held shot with one hand and other hand was holding the paper board behind the butterfly to eliminate background noise. Focusing was challenging as I was holding camera in one hand.Inspiration
I saw this transparent butterfly on first visit and thought to go back to take another shot. I took the challenge as only few of this genre was there and very difficult to get a composition given too many tourists and controlled limited pathway to get closer to the subject.Editing
Yes, I did a bit post processing mainly the background color as the paper board was flat grey.In my camera bag
I usually carry canon 6D, 24-105 mm, 16-35 mm, 100 mm macro, 150-600 mm. I always carry filter, polarizer and cleaning kit. I do not carry tripod all the time.Feedback
Capturing butterfly is always challenging as it is a moving subject and due to that background will always change. Definitely one needs to be patient and takes many shots. Good thing about shooting in enclosed facility is that the subject will be around and not going away. I used the paperboard to isolate the subject from background noise and avoid too much post processing. Plan what you want to capture and invest your time and attention to achieve that. Do not get distracted by other compositions around you.
