This photo is taken during a Yagno-Pavit ( thread) ceremony when a hindu brahmin boy takes his first step in learning. The boy is covered with Pithi ( a cosmetic paste) followed by Mundan ( removal of hair on head) and bath, this process is for purification of the "boy's soul". After Yagno-Pavit, the boy starts his journey to learn the knowledge this world has to give. In this picture the boy is smiling, just before Mundan and he knows what is coming after the paste ceremony.
