Location
This photo was taken on a railway bridge on the outskirts of a small town named Ladysmith in South Africa. I'm a self-taught beginner photographer who try and learn something new with every new session.Time
I left home shortly after 6am in search for a spot for the couple in the photo. They just wanted an image they could use for their wall at home, but to me it had to tell a story. I found this location at about 8am and notified the couple immediately to get ready for their session. After meeting them at their home we left for the location. When we reached there they were a bit amused with what they saw but I got them into position anyway and took a couple of photos shortly after 10h30am. There were a couple of good shots but this one stood out for me. After processing the photos and showing them the final images that evening, they were over the moon. Had this one printed, framed and up on their wall before sundown the next day! :) This photo is what inspired me to continue with photography and to try and better myself with each new session. I'm in competition with no one, just trying better my own work with every new session.Lighting
It was a hot summers day, and as you can imagine, the sunlight was quite harsh on that particular day. Just had to find an angle that best presented the couple without over exposing the shot.Equipment
I used my trusty Canon 650D, and funny enough....an 18-55mm kit lens. The image was taken at 55mm, F4, ISO 100 and a shutter speed of 1/200.Inspiration
I wanted to tell a story with the image. This was the couples first baby, and they were quite nervous about what to expect. The railway lines made for a good anecdote about the emotions they were experiencing... They were on track, happy, but also did not know where it would lead them.Editing
I've done some post processing. The photo color, and some minor corrections were done in Lightroom. In my camera bag
I still shoot with my trusty Canon 650D, but now have two go to lenses that I always carry with me. A 50mm F1.8, and my 85mm F1.8. In my opinion two of the best choices I made on acquiring new gear.Feedback
Our area is known for it's vast change in weather. What you plan for now...you might have to change later. The day this photo was taken started off as a cool morning, and changed into a hot mid summers day in a matter of two hours. All I can say is to be prepared to make adjustments. Try your best to avoid having your subject looking into the sun. Use the light to your advantage and be sure of your subjects placing.
