Location
I took this photo on a walk after dinner in the Gion district of Kyoto. We saw this shrine from a distance and went to find it. My friend and I had ventured out to the only traditional area we know of in Kyoto.Time
It was a really warm night and so we were in no hurry to get back to the hotel. It was after 10 at night and this shrine was lit up and seemed to glow in the humid air. We walked up the hill to it and I took this photo.Lighting
It was very dark, however, the lights were fairly bright so I was able to take this with not flash.Equipment
I did not have my tripod with me or anything to assist me with holding the camera still for a time. I leant on a fence and took this photo. Once I realised that the fence wobbled I was able to stabilise it with my knee whilst i took the photo.Inspiration
I love architecture and whenever I travel, I look out for beautiful examples of traditional and modern architecture that is distinct to that part of the world. I saw this and instantly fell in love with it. It looked typically Japanese and had an aura of majesty about it.Editing
The only post processing that I use, is some times filters and occasionally Lightroom. This photo I used an enhancer found in "photos" to bring out the golden colour a little more. I did not want to change the true colour though. In my camera bag
In my bag I have my Samsung DSLR, with a wide, zoom lense, a 50mm lense, a flash and viewfinder. I also have my Nikon D300S camera with a zoom wide angle lense. I usually have a monopod or a tripod although I often cannot carry it all. I also have spare cards, and dust remover blower.Feedback
Do not rely on taking just one photo, but take many from as many angles as you can imagine and keep snapping to make sure you get the best natural lighting you can achieve. Later you can choose the one you like best. (that's the hard part)
