This photo was taken in the backyard of my home in Australia. We feed the magpies everyday and it is a great time to capture their individual personalities.Time
At about 4pm everyday there is a tapping noise at the back doors with half a dozen little faces looking at us. I go outside with the rod and sit down surround me eating.Lighting
I find that when taking photos of birds natural lighting is best.Equipment
In this photo there is very little equipment used. I used my Canon 5D and the 70-300mm lense. There was no tripod or flash for this photo.Inspiration
I really wanted a way to capture the beautie of how each of these birds have their own big personalitiy. After feeding them for a long time I could get really close and hand feed these wild magpies. They were not afraid of the carmera at all, in fact they loved looking at themselves in the lense making it hard to be far enough away for the lense to focus.Editing
No, it is a original photo with no editing done to it.In my camera bag
The first things that I always pack in my canon 5D and two lenses, 18-70mm and 70-300mm. I also have extra SD cards and my cleaning kit.Feedback
When taking pictures of birds you must be patient. Don't try to make the photo happen but just sit back and watch. When you feel it is the right moment always take more than one shot. I have dozens of photos but only a small handful of nice ones.
