Location
This image was captured at an old Ukrainian Church cemetery near Fedorah. Fedorah is located approximately 44 kilometers north of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.Time
As it was the peek time to view the Perseid Meteor Shower, this photograph was taken at approximately midnight on August 13th. My intent was to capture the image at the darkest hour, which was a little difficult with the cloud coverage and light pollution being so close to the City of Edmonton.Lighting
My original intention was to capture the Perseid Meteor Shower by the beautiful church by the cemetery. Upon arriving I noticed an interesting view of a 100+ year old tombstone as my foreground against the night sky. While waiting for the Meteor Shower I was greeted also by the aurora borealis.Equipment
This shot was from my Nikon D750 camera with the following settings: F/5.0, Time 15 seconds, 18mm lens, ISO 640, without a flash, on a tripod. Of course remember to bring a flash light with you when you are taking night shots.Inspiration
I enjoy landscape photography and especially during low light or time exposures. I thought that the church graveyard would make an excellent location for a night shot to show the beauty of the light streaks caused by the meteor shower. The aurora borealis turned out to be a bonus/Editing
The photograph was cropped and edited in Lightroom. In my camera bag
I normally only pack a couple lenses with my tripod when I go out. At night you want to keep things simple.Feedback
As I was taking photographs in the cemetery at night, I felt it was important to be careful and respectful of the location by sticking to paths and making sure that I didn't lean on anything accidentally. It would have been difficult to avoid walking over a grave site without a flashlight.
