This photo was taken around midnight while we were stuck in a jam in Bok Street, central Hillbrow, inner city of Johannesburg, South Africa. Taking out a camera here is a risk for 2 reasons: robbery and people guarding their privacy. Hiding my Samsung S5 cellular handset in my jersey sleeve and through a small opening in our tinted windowed car, I snapped this group of friends hanging out and having a great time right there on the pavement, in the middle of the mess, with people still bustling and hustling all about...their laughter echoing through our car. I was noticed and approached for my camera, however the traffic jam seemed to end as our vehicle was approached, and we moved forward and around the corner...away from danger. I manipulated this picture to give it an artistic flair, a graffiti feel to fit in with the walls behind, the beauty not in the picture, but in the experience. finding joy in the inner slums of Jozi, my city, my home.
