Location

This photo was taken on location at The Graber olive house in Southern California. It’s a beautiful location and events center which also still produces the best olives!

Time

This would have been shot in the late afternoon we were under the shade of trees and foliage.

Lighting

This is all natural light.

Equipment

Nikon D700 Lensbaby composer pro double glass optic

Inspiration

I was into my “creepy” stage at this point, and although much of my photography still has a darker or dramatic aesthetic I have refined it.

Editing

I always retouch skin (by hand) in photoshop. And then work on color grading.

In my camera bag

Nikon D750 50mm 85mm 35mm Lensbaby composer pro Led strip light (2) Off camera flash 1 strobe (old) but gets the job done!

Feedback

Practice as much as possible there is only one way to get better and that is to do it! Over time you will see growth and learn from your mistakes. It’s important to make sure the location, make up and wardrobe make sense in relation to each other i.e. I never understood someone in a bikini in the middle of the woods or some abandoned building. If you want something dramatic lighting is key to create shadows and depth.
