A March snowstorm in Minnesota. The lakes had already thawed and a early Spring storm arrived. it snowed all night, quitting just before dawn and before anyone was out. One of the most peaceful and serene settings I've experienced in a long, long time.

Location
This was shot at Centennial Lakes Park in Edina, Minnesota just after an early Spring snowstorm. The ice on the lake had already melted from Winter.Time
This was a pre-dawn twilight shot, about 20 minutes before sunrise.Lighting
The blue glow is a natural effect that is best captured 20-25 minutes before Sunrise or after SunsetEquipment
Nikon D600 with tripod. No FlashInspiration
I wanted to do a special twilight shoot and knew a snowstorm was forecast overnight. I thought I'd get out this location in the early hours before anyone left their footprints in the snow. Little did I know that the ice (normally in this lake throughout winter) had melted, so it really became quite a magical scene. It was perfectly quiet and serene.Editing
Just normal processing for a RAW photograph... brightness, contrast, etc. I did NOT apply any type of tinting to this image and the color temp was set to automatic on my camera. Fortunately the artificial lighting worked out just fine from a color temperature perspective. In my camera bag
I normally have two Nikons with me... one with a wide angle lens (14-24mm). The other with a longer zoom lens (24mm - 120mm). Those two camera setups suit me just fine for my landscape interests. I'll also bring a flash light for night shoots to provide subtle lighting on longer exposures.Feedback
Plan ahead, but don't overlook unique features on-site that you hadn't anticipated. Be adventuresome! No one likes to get up at 5am to do outdoor photography at colder temps... but you never know what you find unless you try it out yourself.
