Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo at my home. I have been an avid birder for many years and enjoy capturing shots of birds in their natural habitats as well as at man-made feeders and attractions.

Time

I got this photo in the morning as this eastern bluebird was beginning its day looking for food.

Lighting

The lighting for this photo is all natural. I didn't need a flash of any sort for that time of day.

Equipment

I used a DMC-FZ100. It is my standard camera. I didn't use any type of filter.

Inspiration

I was inspired to take this photo because of the beautiful colors of the eastern bluebird and the contrast of those colors with the surroundings.

Editing

The only post processing I needed to do was to crop my image to enlarge my featured subject.

In my camera bag

I like to keep spare batteries and memory cards with me at all times when I photograph nature. You never know when you come across a special situation that requires multiple shots to capture the perfectly timed moment. I keep several things in my camera bag that will protect my camera in all types of weather. I don't want to damage anything by getting it wet, but I try to get the shot regardless of rain or drizzle.

Feedback

My advice in getting a special shot with birds is to keep shooting. Birds are unpredictable and it's better to shoot multiple similar photos and choose the best later than to miss the once in a lifetime shot by waiting too long to snap the picture.
