Behind The Lens

Location

Front yard of a office building in Sydney CBD. There was a Christmas tree display on top of this water fall. This is the bottom part of the display. Coloured light reflected on whole the display, changing the colours.

Time

About 8:00 pm at night in the Christmas season. It was a twilight time (summer in Christmas time here) .

Lighting

The water had a coloured light reflection, I just captured how it was. It was not totally dark but getting pretty dark, so I could use a very slow shutter speed to get more lights.

Equipment

Camera: Canon EOS 100D (cropped framed) Lens: 18-50mm (18mm) Tripot

Inspiration

I always like to see the silky water flow in photos pro people take. This was not a natural waterfall but it was displayed quite well with rocks and some fallen leaves (leaves are natural. I saw big maple trees around). Plus, the lighting effect was quite dramatic there.

Editing

The photo from the camera was pretty much like this. With raw file, I slightly adjusted light, highlight and a bit of darkness. Using the low ISO (100) it didn't have much noise. I just cleaned some dirty spots with photoshop.

In my camera bag

Canon EOS100D (that's only the DSLR camera I own ), two choices of lenses for the camera, Compact camera (Canon PowerShot S110). When I leave for the dark time, I may take tripod, too.

Feedback

This "unrealistic colour" came from the light display. I was just lucky. For the silky water flow, the long exposure is necessary. Have to chose the right time and right circumstances. At night, just use the camera's settings. During the day, you may need a filter (ex:ND) Camera setting for this photo - ISO:100, f/22, 30sec Finally thanks for choosing my photo. I am an amateur and just started learning photography. I am leaning from good photos.
