Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo in Wat Mahathat in Ayutthaya during my trip through Thailand.

Time

It was about 4:30 PM. I remember we had to pick the train at 5:00 PM, I lost my wallet this day, so we lost a lot of time, but I definitely wanted to see this buddha head. It was worth the risk of getting late to the train station. At the end I found my wallet at the police station and we still got on the train.

Lighting

It was in the evening, and the buddha head was in shadow, which was good for softer shadows. I underexposed it a little bit in order to not loose the strong texture of the wood and stone.

Equipment

This was shot on a Nikon D 5100, with the 18-105 kit lens, no tripod and no flash.

Inspiration

I already knew about this place before. I just wanted to capture this special object.

Editing

Unfortunatley I didn't take this one in RAW. I didn't do a lot of editing, just adjusting the contrast.

In my camera bag

My Nikon D5100 of course. My first lens was the 18-105 mm kit lens, now I already have a 35mm 1.8 prime, which is great. I always carry the GorillaPod, IR Shutter and a flashlight.

Feedback

Sometimes you can't wait for the perfect moment, or the best weather. Adapt to the circumstances and also always think about the composition, mostly 1/3 rule is right in this case I centered the object, because I didn't want to loose the tree roots on none of both sides.
