Location
The building is Refugi Amitges located in the Parc Nacional d'Aigüestortes i Estany de Sant Maurici which is part of the Catalan Pyrenees. We were trecking the Carros de Foc and this our first night stay. The second last day of the circular walk brings you to one of the ridges in the background of this photo and you end up having to descend a scree slope which moves around a bit under you.Time
We'd had breakfast and were just about to head off on our second day's hiking to Refugi Colomers vis Refugi Saboredo so it wasn't that early. EXIF tells me it was 09:58 but maybe because of the altitude and time of year (mid-September) the light was just amazing.Lighting
While waiting to leave I scouted around for a suitable shot of the refugi and after discounting a couple of shots I turned back and this was what I saw - so it pays to wait for the light when/if you can.Equipment
Canon EOS 5D MKII with Canon EF16-35 f/4 IS USM. This was hand-held as I didn't take my tripod on this hike. No flash required.Inspiration
Easy. The light was just right and I was in the right place.Editing
I use Lightroom but when I've checked the development settings on this, it doesn't have a lot of processing done to it. Highlight reduction, Shadow boost and then a touch of Saturation and Vibrance and finally some sharpening. It was taken 6 years ago so it's likely I'd process it slightly differently these days.In my camera bag
This was primarily a hiking holiday with photography as a bonus so on this trip it was just the Canon 5DMKII and the 16-35 lens. Since then I've moved over to Sony A7RIII with a Zeiss 24-70 f/4 and a 70-200 f2.8 GM. I've also recently moved from the south of England to the north east of Scotland so will be aiming to ramp up my photography again.Feedback
Patience to wait for the light - in this case I had almost given up on a decent shot and was preparing for just a record of where we had been. And then bam - this happens. But then being in the mountains, the light is always changing - so you just have to be aware of when and where it may strike and be ready to take advantage of that.
