Location
This photo was taken in a beautiful arch way in Palm Beach, FL. It was perfectly timed!Time
I was out on a photo shoot with my model in the morning and we came across this arch way. The lighting at the location in the morning is always beautiful. The sun lights up the trees and the street at the end of the tunnel so it creates a very beautiful background. It was taken about 8AM.Lighting
I wanted the focus to be on the dancer and not the location. I chose this location because of the high contrast in the lighting. The model is brightly lit from the sun behind me, while the tunnel is dark. Then there is the light at the end of the tunnel with creates a gorgeous background.Equipment
I shot this photo with my Canon T5i and a 50mm lens.Inspiration
I have always had a fascination with dancers. The way that photography is my art form, their bodies are their art form. I wanted to capture beauty in action. The body is frozen in time, but you can feel movement when looking at her hair and dress. I was inspired to capture her art form through my art form.Editing
I used Adobe Lightroom 5 to do my post-processing. I made the photo black and white to add impact and emotion. I believe with black and white images you have to really look at the photo to understand the meaning. I added a vignette to really draw your attention to the dancer. I wanted the dancer to be the main focus and then notice the location second. In my camera bag
I always have 2 camera. My T5i as my normal shooter and my T3i as my backup! Always have to be prepared! I carry a flash, my 50mm, 75-300mm lens, and of course extra batteries. I always have a reflector and mini tripod handy because you never know what you may stumbler across.Feedback
Lightning is key. Always. Once you find high contrast lighting you have hit the pot of gold! This arch way is passes by and walked through thousands of times a day. The other people don't see it's potential. They just see an arch way. If you want to capture a really special shot, you need to notice the beauty in everything. Be observant. Be creative. Think from many different angles. What some people see as an arch, you need to see as an opportunity to create art. That is when amazing things will happen.
