Location
I took it at Craig's Hut in the High Country in Victoria, Australia. This hut was used in the filming of The Man From Snowy River. There are a number of old cattleman's huts in the area and they all have a beautiful rustic feel. A few minutes before I got to the hut it was crowded with a group of tourists who were stranded after a nearby bus rollover. Luckily a replacement bus arrived just as I got to the hut and I had it all to myself.Time
The photo was taken in the late afternoon. There's something magical about the harsh Australian light as it becomes softer approaching golden hour.Lighting
I had difficulty managing the dark interior and lighter exterior of the setting.Equipment
Pentax K50.Inspiration
Trying to capture the rustic beauty of these old huts as well as the magnificent views of the landscape that they offer.Editing
Given the difficulties in shooting both the dark interior and light exterior, I had to use HDR techniques to ensure ideal exposure. In my camera bag
I love long exposure shots, so bring my Lee filter kit everywhere with me, hoping for any chance I get to use it. Otherwise, two lenses, spare batteries and memory cards and as I have learnt from bitter experience a musli bar or two to get me through!Feedback
The huts of High Country Victoria and NSW are lovely at any time of the year. A 4WD will allow better access to them.
