Behind The Lens

Location

This was taken in my home studio when I was living in Victoria, MN. I had an upstairs room with a backdrop stand and 3 studio strobes at my disposal.

Time

Time of day isn't really important as this was taken in a studio setting. For the record though was taken just before 9pm.

Lighting

I was playing around with simple light setups. She was sitting in front of a black background. I had a beauty dish on one of my White Lightning studio strobes to get this simple light affect on the model.

Equipment

Nikon D3, 17-155 F/2.8 lens, White Lighting studio strobes ISO 400 1/160 @ F/10

Inspiration

The inspiration for this was originally pin-up art and trying to figure out lighting to work on a fine art nudes project.

Editing

Initial editing was done in Photoshop, basic camera raw tweaks and some skin smoothing. I then brought the image into Nik Effect Silver EFX Pro to do the tonal conversion from color to what you see in this photo.

In my camera bag

Currently, I don't leave without my D850, 50/F1.4, 16-35/F4, and my 70-200/F2.8 when I'm out an about doing shoots involving people as subjects.

Feedback

Develop a good working relationship with your model. Let her know what you want and also listen to what she offers. Have some initial lighting ideas in mind before you start and then let inspiration take over.
