Location
This photo is one of many taken on a visit to our Children's Museum here in Indianapolis. The Photo is part of a exhibit called the "Fireworks of Glass" by famed artist and glass blower; Dale Chihluy. From the Museum's website: "Specially commissioned by the museum, Fireworks of Glass consists of 3,200 pieces of blown glass in red, yellow, cobalt blue, lime, and orange, intertwined to create a tower that extends vertically for 43 feet through the museum’s core. The piece required five years to plan, develop, and create…” “It’s complemented by a Pergola Ceiling comprising 1,700 Chihuly creations, visible through a floating ceiling made of large clear glass sections on the museum’s Lower Level. The pieces—which were inspired by undersea plants and creatures, chandeliers, flowers, and other forms—can be viewed from a revolving platform underneath the ceiling, as well as from the ramp that leads visitors up to the museum’s other four levels of galleries...…."Time
The shot was taken during the day, inside the museum, about 3:00pm,using the lights that were available.Lighting
There was enough lighting available that I did not want to use flash and loose the textures coming through the glass objects.Equipment
No tripod, using my Nikon D50, no flashInspiration
It was a visit to show my sister our museum. She was visiting from Massachusetts and we were playing "tourist". I had see this exhibit before and knew she would like to see it. We both had cameras.Editing
I just used Google PICASA to review and sometimes adjust contrast and lighten. In my camera bag
I have (now) a NIKON D5200 with the 18-55 lens with filter for "walking around" and a 55-300. I use a Speedlight SB-700 Flash. And have a 2x telephoto add on and a wide angle.Feedback
It's all in the "eye", capture what you like. Having your camera available is the key. I take it on walks, short trips and events. Study the "techniques".. Use ViewBug as a guide, I do. See what the winners are doing..
