Behind The Lens

Location

Among the many meadows and woods near the house

Time

10th of October 2015 at 8.55am

Lighting

I was in a depression where the sun came quite late and everything around was wet with dew. This nice little snail had decided to go down along the blade of grass when it then began to rise again, having no more where to go. Only when I got home and I saw it on the computer I realized that he had a very small parasite that had found place under his left antenna. It was very small and I thought it was a speck of dust. The snail was not larger than a normal coin

Equipment

The photo was taken with a Nikon D610 and the lens a Sigma 150 macro f2.8. Almost all my shots are performed with tripod and cable shutter. I also use live view for a proper DOF

Inspiration

Snails have always inspired my photographic curiosity and this beautiful specimen was no exception, considering also its strategic position

Editing

On my pc I use a post-production program. I'm not very good at this and I do not use masks or levels. Only whites, blacks, lights and shadows. Then I use the Niksoftwhare program to adjust sharpening and structure. I reduce with a light frame and add my signature. That's all

In my camera bag

In my backpack there is a bit of everything. From the glasses to the anti mosquito stick, from the plamp (which I never use) to the towel to lie down, I also have some lenses like Trioplan 100mm (old lenses of 70 years), a pair of scissors to remove some grass and a couple of extension tubes.

Feedback

To learn you have to shoot, shoot, shoot and never get tired. Macro photography I think is the most beautiful section. I have been following for 15 years and I hope to continue as much as possible. Hello to all. Gigi. If you want to follow me you can find a small gallery on www.gigigallone.it
