Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken at Esquimalt Lagoon which is in the southern tip of Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada.

Time

Early morning around 8am, it was my first field trip with some photography class mates, so a rather monumental day for me!

Lighting

It was a beautiful Autumn day, the sun was just peaking over the hillside and the pigeons were fluffing and warming themselves to its 1st Morning rays.

Equipment

This is a shot taken with my Nikon D3300 I always shoot manual so I can have control! No flash needed on this gorgeous day

Inspiration

This was my very first field trip with mates from my photography class. It's the day I realized I was truly passionate about photography. I had been searching my whole life to find the medium to express my creativity. I have finally found it!

Editing

I haven't touched the picture at all. I hadn't learned much about Lightroom or Photoshop at that time so I left it alone. I have always thought to take out the few white random feathers in the photo but decided against changing what I believe to be perfect.

In my camera bag

I carry my Nikon D3300 everywhere usually with my 3.5/5.6, 55-200mm lens attached with my 1.8/50mm portrait lense and a polarize lense in my pack too! I have a D200 also but that old lovely work horse is just too heavy for little ole me! Lol

Feedback

No matter whether I get the perfect shot I always enjoy the beauty of the moment! Patience and stealth were in order that morning. I took my time trying to get close, ( my mates had a good laugh at my stealth positions!) I had my camera on a tripod, I used a grey card to meter for light an s set my camera to a focal length of 200mm ISO 100, f5.6, with a shutter speed of 1/25sec and hoped for the best!
