This is a photo at Sunrise of Cox's Bay Raglan New Zealand. As an amateur and still learning so much I still get a buzz when an image turns out like this.Time
Living on the West Coast I love all seasons but the summers especially and getting up early to catch the sunrises. This was taken 7am late January.Lighting
This image is unedited, I nearly always try and get the best out of in camera and manual mode. However on this occasion I actually mistakenly had my camera set on Sports mode of all things!.. one of those accidental shots that turned out good. I could also see how wonderful the sun was reflecting on the water to add to the quiet drama of the morning unfolding before my eyes.Equipment
This was shot with my Canon 600D and kit lens EFS 55-250mm and no tripod.. I have since disciplined myself more into using a tripod.Inspiration
I never get sick of sunrises and sunsets. I only have to open my bedroom curtain in the mornings to scan what the sunrise is promising.. I could tell this was going to be a beauty so jumped out of bed and into the car and down to the wharf only a 5 minute drive from home. From the vantage point on the wharf I can frame the boats in the harbour or stay on my deck and just capture a view of the harbour, so glad I chose the wharf on this occasion.Editing
No post processing used, I was satisfied with it as is.In my camera bag
I haven't yet graduated from my one and only DSLR camera, a Canon 600D and 2 kit lenses, the EFS 55-250mm and EFS 18-55mm. They all go everywhere with me. I also have a remote for when using a tripod and in low light; And a cleaning kit.. for blowing away those sand grains, I spend a lot of time on the beach.Feedback
If you love sunrises and sunsets as I do, you will be at your chosen vantage point on the ready at least 15 minute before the sun is due to rise [or set]. It rises at such a pace and you are in your happy place, watching, shooting several frames and waiting for that one that creates a point of difference. .. or not. It's simply fun being there.
