I took this shot of The Snake River and Shoshone Falls at sunrise. I was struck by the beauty of the green water and the drama in the sky. This is just outside of Twin Falls Idaho and I was there to take a workshop on portrait lighting.

I took this photo at Shoshone Falls near Twin Falls Idaho.Time
I was attending a workshop on this day that started at 9am I think, so I got up before sunrise and went to the falls because I wanted to capture the sunrise light there. The viewpoint hangs out into the canyon. I was afraid the cloudy sky was going to kill the shot, but I shot bracketed photos and processed it as HDR.Lighting
I love taking photos around sunrise and sunset because of the beautiful lighting and interesting colors.Equipment
I use the Sony A7rii. On this photo I used the Rokinon 14mm 2.8 I believe. It's one of my favorite lenses. I of course used a tripod to keep it steady and get 3 shots that were all the same.Inspiration
I had seen many shots of Shoshone falls before and I wanted to see it for myself and see if I could get something different.Editing
As I mentioned, the sky was cloudy, but I was able to show the drama by processing as HDR. My processing did cause some chromatic aberration along where the sky and land meet, so I had to clone it out along that entire area. I also used On1 Photo Effects to do some toning. In my camera bag
I have the Sony A7rii and Sony 24-240mm lens almost always on it. I do use the Rokinon 14mm quite a bit (especially for astro-photography). I also have a bunch of vintage lenses of various types that I have found at pawn shops and thrift stores. There are adapters for just about any type mount. I have a travel tripod that folds up nice and small. Some cool gear that I recently bought includes the Triggertrap to connect your cell phone to the camera and use the app to do long exposures and the Ice 10-stop neutral density filter. I also recently got the Ricoh Theta S 360 degree camera.Feedback
The viewpoint I was standing at had a railing around it and I didn't want that in the shot. I stuck the lens between the rails to avoid them. Try different things to get the composition you like. Try to get something different from everyone else. Try different heights of the tripod instead of always having it at eye level.
