Location
I took this photo in Shillong, Meghalaya, India.Time
I remember I was sitting in one of my MBA classes and just looked outside. The sun was just setting and saw this amazing view. It was around 5:55 PM and the class was just about to end. I was waiting eagerly for the class to get over so that I could run to my hostel room, get my camera and capture this stunning view.Lighting
The sun light was dramatic but I wanted to bring to light the clouds and the mountains and some other elements. So I decided to shoot an HDR image. So I clicked 3 images with -1,0 and +1 EV keeping it on Aperture Priority mode. And combined these images on Photomatix Pro 5 to get this effect.Equipment
This was shot on Canon 1100D, with an 18-55mm f/3.5 lens. No other equipment was involved.Inspiration
I always keep looking for sunsets and since I was in a land where the dramatic clouds convert a normal scene to a stunning one. I was sitting in my MBA class and I just looked outside my window. An amazing scene was forming, but I didn't have my camera with me. Thank god, the class was about to end and I rushed to my room to get my camera and capture this stunning scene. I was reading about HDR pictures and wanted to try my hands on it. And I guess, I got the perfect opportunity for it.Editing
When you want an HDR photograph, you have to do the post processing. I got the 3 raw images at -1,0 and +1 EV giving me the elements for a good dynamic range picture. So I combined these pictures in the Photomatix Pro 5, adjusted the contrast and white balance and did some other adjustment to get this shot.In my camera bag
I normally have the default 18-55mm f/3.5 default kit lens and 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6 lens to capture the far away elements like mountains/sunsets and get the desired composition. I also carry polariser filter in order to darken skies, manage reflections, or suppress glare from the surface of lakes or the sea.Feedback
When you visit Meghalaya, the region which receives the highest rainfall on earth, the weather changes in moments. Just keep your eyes open and the nature will give you plenty of opportunities to show its beauty. And since, the clouds are almost always there, you can see dramatic sunsets. Just find a right spot, on the top of a peak, and you are prepared for capturing stunning pictures.
