Location
I took this photo in the great city of Nashville. This is lower Broadway. Neon and Honky-Tonks. These are places you might see a superstar or you might become a star. Some of the greats have played music in the buildings. The names of the bars might have changed, but if the walls could talk, they might just sing.Time
Nashville is pretty quiet around 4:30 in the morning. The only people stirring in the area at this time are the bar staff trying to clean up for another night of country music.Lighting
There was just enough glow from the city and the early morning light to give the sky that deep blue look. I didn't want the totally black sky in this picture. I think it compliments the neon.Equipment
This was shot with a Sony a65V using a 18-55 lens at f/18 and ISO of 800. I did use a tripod. No other equipment was used.Inspiration
I've lived around Nashville for going on 30 years. Nashville seems to inspire so many people. Obviously the music is inspiring to many, but I think the dream of making it big has more to do with drawing people here. This photo was meant to showcase places where some make it big and some fade from the dream.Editing
I used light room to pull down he highlights a little and cut out some of the noise in the pic. then I compressed the levels a little in PS elements. In my camera bag
I shoot Sony. I bought an Alpha 100 way back and have steadily upgraded since then. I keep an a99 and a NEX-7 in my bag all the time. I have a hard time choosing between the full frame and the mirrorless and often find myself taking shots of the same image with both cameras. I have a kit 18-55 zoom, a 75-300, a 2.8 85mm, a 1.4 35mm, and 14mm for wide angles. I've thought of changing brands, but I'm hooked on SONY now and wouldn't want to start over.Feedback
Taking a shot like this in the inner city can be dangerous. I was alone for this shot, but I suggest having someone with you for safety. I arrived in the wee hours of the morning because I wanted this specific shot. At this time of the morning, traffic is very light. A tripod is always a good idea for this type of shot.
