This image was taken at Pensacola Beach, Florida during Bands on the Beach. Bands on the Beach is a summer celebration held every Tuesday evening. However, this was at the end of the season and unfortunately the red tide had come in, making things very difficult since red tide causes burning in the eyes and throat and sinuses to act up. This band, Something HUGE, pushed through and I captured it.Time
The time was around 7 pm maybe? It's been a while so it's hard to remember.Lighting
It was getting dark outside and the only lighting was the band lights. I really thought that it helped capture the mood and fun energy of Something Huge. I very much loved the glare of the light by the drummer as well.Equipment
I used my Canon Rebel 3. I usually bring that one to the beach.Inspiration
I am the band photographer of Something Huge so I go to most gigs. This was their first time playing Bands on the Beach which is a big deal for local bands here. They were so excited and then a bit bummed about the red tide since the crowd was much smaller than it should have been. They decided to push through and have a blast. I was loving the mood/lighting and thought that if I shot the image from behind it would look pretty cool to get the band lights. This band has so much great energy that it's hard to not capture great photos of them.Editing
I put the image into my mixture of black and white in Lightroom and I believe I fixed some contrast issues. In my camera bag
I usually carry multiple lenses of course, two mounted flashes and of course batteries, extra SD cards and a charger.Feedback
When photographing a live band you are dealing with a lot of movement. I say just go with the flow and try to capture the personalities of each member and the collective personality of the band. Work with stage lighting because it really brings out the energy and flow of the music.
