Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken about 6 years ago on the pier at Pismo Beach, California. He was just standing on the rail on the south side of the pier and wasn't moving for anyone.

Time

This photo was taken about 3:30 pm, I want to say around May or June. The marine layer is a big issue on the Central California beaches and as such you must wait until the afternoon to get cloudless sky photo's.

Lighting

Nothing special in regards to lighting. It was just the normal afternoon light with no filters etc...

Equipment

I used a fixed lens Cannon travel camera, nothing special.

Inspiration

The relaxed and calm nature of this Pelican just intrigued me. I shot about 15 photos of this bird and this was the one I chose to upload.

Editing

No post process at all.

In my camera bag

I now travel with a Sony A6000 with its kit lenses and one prime 1.2 lens. I always have a trusty fixed lens travel camera in my bag as well.

Feedback

Really don't have a lot of advice other than be aware and relax as you prepare so you don't shoo off the subject.
