Location
This was taken in Alberville, AL at Town Creek.Time
It was twilight, post sunset.Lighting
My biggest concern was capturing some color in the water and having enough light to still have a long exposure. I used Lee Gradual ND filters on the sky.Equipment
Just a Canon 5D Mark II, Sirui tripod, and Lee Filters.Inspiration
It was on a Sunday, and I was itching to take a twilight picture. I searched this on Google Earth and talked myself out of going for weeks, so finally I waited until the last minute, took the two hour trip, and literally pulled up to the spot with 15 minutes of daylight left!! It was perfect timing, a long way to go for a picture, but definitely worth it.Editing
I processed it in Lightroom and focused on getting details out of the highlights in the forground. Thanks to gradual ND filters the sky was no problem. In my camera bag
I keep my camera, a 70-200mm lens, 16-35mm lens, flash, CamRanger, two pocket wizards, filters, batteries, cf cards, cleaning supplies and hex keys.Feedback
Give yourself plenty of time and download an app called “the photographers iphimeris”. You can see exactly when and where the sun will be at a location 20 years into the future if you wanted to. It helps with the planning of long distance shots like this. All though I cut it close, I already had an idea of what to expect on the way! ????????
