Location
The image was taken in my living room. My cat was lying on top of the couch in a funny position so I had to take the picture quickly before he moved. Luckily he is an amazing model and held the pose for me.Time
This photo was taken around midday as I was a bit bored in between my work shifts. He is never still for long when I'm home so I had to take my opportunity while I could.Lighting
I have big glass doors just out of frame to the left, which allows in plenty of soft light and was able to brighten and bring to life my sleepy cat's eyes.Equipment
This was shot with a Nikon d3200 with a 35mm 1.8. No flash or tripod was used.Inspiration
When you get a new pet (like a kitten) and you have a camera you can't help but take thousands of pictures. He is extremely playful which is fun and always brings a laugh, but I wanted to capture a different side to him. Using a small depth of field makes it very tough to get his eyes in focus when he is bolting around. So I had to wait till he had calmed down and was drifting off to sleep.Editing
A little post processing was used with the highlights and shadows having to be pulled back and brought up respectively. This brought his face out and revealed his big blue eyes. Some tweaking with the white balance and a touch more exposure and saturation on the eyes was needed as the majority of his face was in shadow due to his front leg blocking the light. In my camera bag
I only started photography around Easter last year so my bag is pretty basic. There was a sale on when I bought my Nikon d3200 which was bundled with the kit 18-55mm and 55-300mm. I added the 35mm 1.8G to my bag and is my most used and reliable lens. I'm not looking to upgrade the body just yet as the d3200 does a fine job, so I look to add better glass. My latest lens is the 50mm 1.8G. To finish of what's in my bag, a Yongnuo flash and a $5 tripod that's clogged with sand.Feedback
Apart from having a cute pet, the ability to have a large source of soft, natural light never hurts.
